East Grinstead in Bloom
What can you do?

It is probably that the average East Grinstead resident is more aware than ever before of the impact of environment on his or her quality of life and conversely his or her effect on their immediate environment.

Some go off to save rainforests or melting ice caps - for most however, caught up in the daily cycles of households, families and work - the question arises "what can I do about it?"

Simple question! And simple answer!

you can do as much or as little as you like

East Grinstead in Bloom is a proactive campaign of enabling our community to create long term improvements in our local environment.

We are all volunteers and more hands to the wheel are always warmly welcome.

Neighbourhood Awards by the Royal Horticultural Society

"Devise an action plan to decide what projects you want to achieve, what the priorities are and how you are going to make a difference and breathe new life into your local environment. Things on your action plan may include:

  • Talking or writing to other residents and members of the local community to inform them about the Neighbourhood Awards, and your intention to improve the area. Remember you need them to help you in your efforts so also ask them what improvements they would like to see.
  • Informing your local authority of your intentions. In more cases than not, they will be willing to assist in one way or another.
  • Encouraging your supporters to keep their own frontages neat and tidy, where possible using plants and shrubs, and to help you improve the area as a whole.
  • Starting a clean-up project to focus on areas that attract litter and graffiti.
  • Introducing flowers, trees and shrubs into the local community as well as hard and soft landscaping projects.
  • Involving children in your efforts. Get them to design a poster to put in the local shop or supermarket. They may wish to ‘adopt a spot’ taking on the responsibility for the planting, cleanliness and maintenance.
  • Putting together a funding paper to help you succeed in your efforts. You will need to generate funding either by arranging fund-raising events (for example car boot sales, auctions or jumble sales) or by attracting sponsorship or benefits in kind from local businesses."
